Faires & Games

If you would like links to some of the events Nagle Forge & Foundry will be attending please go directly to our Event Calendar.

While we will only personally be participating in four Scottish events in 2015 several of the small Celtic stores who carry our line do participate in a number of local Scottish Games and Celtic festivals throughout the United States and we recommend that you check their websites for local event listings.

If you are interested in a close to concise list of North American Celtic events we suggest reading Celtic Life International magazine. Celtic Life is a Canadian magazine with an international flavor and covers a number of diverse Celtic events --Scottish, Irish, Cornish, Breton, Galician, Welsh, etc.-- worldwide. They have a great website and affordable subscription rates for either the print or on-line edition.

Also, a number of Scottish clubs and Clan groups offer extensive additional information about various Celtic & Scottish events throughout the United States. The Twin Cities Scottish Club --of Minneapolis and St. Paul-- offers an extensive guide to various Scottish Games and Celtic events in Minnesota. They also sponsor a number of family friendly events throughout the year --Scottish movie night, musical evenings and picnics.

For more information about events in the California Central Valley the Caledonian Club of Sacramento --one of the oldest Scottish Clubs west of the Mississippi-- has an extensive list of links to various California events and local clubs & their website is a good resource for anyone interested in Scottish events in the Central Valley or Sierra region.

If you are interested in something Welsh --as opposed to Scottish-- the Welsh American Society of Northern California is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the culture, language, history or music of Wales. Guilds, Clans & Bands also have extensive (if not comprehensive) listings of various Scottish Games and gatherings. No matter how extensive a listing may seem it is still a good idea to double check event information.

Fan Sites

Occasionally a customer from one region will comment on the number of events we do across the country. They will then ask why we don't post a photo album of all the events we do. Well, it's a great idea ...but we're jewelry people, not web people. However, there are a number of interesting fan-sites that document their creators' faire experiences.

The Pygmy Pony is a general interest Faire fan site. Primarily focuses on events in Texas.

Guilds, Clans & Bands

This is in no way a complete list. (There are always new guilds, and there seem to be an endless number of regional Scottish groups/associations/clubs/clans.) However, these are people we know (and are in contact with on a semi-regular basis). So... we thought a few links might be convenient.

The House of Boyd Society helps convene members and descendants of the Boyd family at Scottish Games throughout the United States. At events where they are conveneing they take care to help geneaologists investigate their Boyd ancestors and they have extended their hospitable presence on-line. They have an extensive list of Boyd sites and Scottish events, as well as links to Scottish & Irish cultural sites.

Clan Gunn Society of North America helps convene members and descendants of the Gunn family at Scottish Games throughout North America.

Knowledge

Learning is a life journey for many of us. The internet can be a shaky resource. Too often un-edited, articles that are too short, or never footnoted. Nevertheless, there are websites that are priceless resources. We highly recommend the following.

The New Wild Geese is a website specifically geared towards the Irish diaspora. Active members post articles on current events in Ireland, historical events world-wide that specifically impacted --or were impacted by-- the Irish diaspora, and the evolution of the art and culture of Ireland and the Irish.

Entertainment

Once in a while we all need to have some entertainment that is not directly related to a Scottish Game, Celtic Festival, or Renaissance Faire. Here are some favorites: Musicians, poets, little theatre, and more.
If you have any suggestions to add here, please let us know.

Interphaze is a professional LARP --Live Action Role Play-- company based in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) that specializes in weekend-long costumed activities.

Magical Music Anwyn and George are a lovely multi-talented (harp, psalter, hurdy-gurdy, hammered dulcimar, vocals) musical couple. They play (and make) a variety of instruments in a variety of styles (Celtic, Medieval, Folk, etc.). I once had the pleasure of being next to them for three-and-a-half days (it was a convention). I think it is a testament to their talent (and the extent of their repetoire) that I still look forward to seeing them and keep their C.D.s at the top of my play stack.

Linda Imperial is a wonderful vocalist with a wide range of styles that make her difficult to categorize. Much better just to listen. Her new (and newly available) CD is great and we all highly recommend it.

2 Jamisons This is a website run by a California bagpiper & U.S. military veteran. Butterfield 8 theatre company. Located in the greater San Francisco bay area, the company explores classic (Shakespeare!) and new plays and offers the audience an immersive and accessible theatrical experience.

Catharine Clark-Sayles Poetry It seems down-right impolite to refer to poetry as "entertainment" ...poetry can be anything, or everything... And this, is.

Maisie the Animal Minder Okay, so what could be nicer than a cute little girl who travels around rural Britain with her Mum in a cheery red van taking care of animals, learning about the countryside, doing her chores and playing with the border collies? A series of illustrated books about the little girl! The creation of Eireann Littlefield --who does travel around the British countryside in a cheery red van taking care of animals-- Maisie is perfect for the lap-sit set. Educational, upbeat, ethical and entertaining... the first book in the Maisie series is now available for online orders and... tada!!!... there are also Maisie coloring sheets & a Maisie sing-along song available on the Maisie website!

Shopping & Services

Once in a while you might want to buy something other than jewelry. [I'm not offended, I shop too.] Here are some favorites: Friends, neighbours, purveyors of useful and interesting things, makers of useful and interesting things, and others.
Just because a site is not listed here does not mean that the site/person/company is not a friend, neighbour, or purveyor/maker of interesting, or unusual, items. It just means that we are short on time: More will be added at a later date. We also apologize if any of the links are dead --most of our friends aren't web-masters either.

Blue Ridge Chair Works made some of the best portable tables we have ever owned. (And, still own.) We have never had an easy time finding good display tables for our items. Most tables that are strong enough to hold the weight of our pewter, bronze, silver, gold and stone display pieces (and our very heavy glass cases) are either much too large or slightly too small (and very heavy in their own right). A few years ago I snapped and decided that there had to be a table that was strong, easy to to move, and attractive. Luckily I stumbled upon the ChairMan, Alan, who assured me that his tables were everything I was looking for and then proceeded to modify them so that they were just the dimensions I wanted as well. So far we have not had to replace or fix any of Alan's tables and every time I move one I appreciate the quality of construction and design. [And yes, they also make folding chairs and other things.]
