Email us about this product Although earrings (for women) were rare in early and mid Tudor period England we decided to adapt this lovely still-slightly-gothic Tudor belt fitting design to re-make as a pair of earrings. A foliated quatrefoil this design is, at first glance, charmingly simple. Yet... if you look a little closer you will notice that there are two smaller quatrefoils within the greater quatrefoil and that the crosses are actually made up of several small fleur de lis. The original quatrefoil was probably part of a metal studded slim leather belt that was made and worn nearly 500 years ago. We decided a slightly modified version of this design would be perfect for versatile and individual earrings. Because we make them, they are even more versatile and unique. Each pair of earrings is handcrafted and each set of earrings is almost always one-of-a-kind. We re-created the pendant link after a mid Renaissance - Tudor design (c. 1520-1550), hand carved the master and cast each piece in sterling silver or high-quality jeweler's bronze. [Our casting mark, NF&F, is featured in a starburst design on the back of each link.]
Each pair of earrings is hand finished and can incorporate a wide variety of carefully matched gemstones &/or pearls. We also use a number of different earring hook styles (hinge backs, simple traditional hooks, simple modern hooks, etc.) and we can build a pair of earrings to suit your personal preferences. [We will also make single earrings for gentlemen or ladies who prefer to wear only one earring.]
The display model above features cabochon polished Amethyst pendants and modern hooks that incorporate small Amethyst beads. All sterling silver. (As a special order we can also make these earrings in a combination of Bronze and Sterling Silver.) We would be happy to custom make you a pair of Tudor Quatrefoil earrings incorporating the colors or stones of your choice. We are always interested in making something different. In the recent past we have made Tudor Quatrefoil earrings featuring grey, pink and white Baroque Pearls, all natural Canadian Jade, Amethyst, Amber, Turquoise, Chrysoprase, Jet, Carnelian and Garnet.
